The Fellowship has two categories: the Journalist Fellowship and the Young Journalist Fellowship. We will invite 15-20 selected journalists from around the world to participate.
The Journalist Fellowship is open to journalists of any age with a demonstrated interest in civic space and human rights issues and a strong portfolio of work.
The Young Journalist Fellowship is for journalists under 30, including citizen journalists and those who cover and create strong engagement on rights issues on digital media platforms.
The benefits and expectations of both fellowships are otherwise the same.
CIVICUS will arrange travel and cover costs to attend ICSW in Bangkok, where fellows will have opportunities to meet and interview civil society activists from around the globe. In addition to attending ICSW events, including a reception for fellows, selected fellows are expected to publish at least two stories in any format related to ICSW and civic freedoms, based on their reporting during the week.
Applications are due 14 September, with fellows chosen and notified by early October. We strongly encourage journalists from Global Majority countries to apply. If you have any questions, please contact icsw@civicus.org.
CIVICUS is a global alliance of civil society organisations and activists working to strengthen citizen action and civil society throughout the world. More than 15,000 members from over 175 countries make up our vibrant and Majority World-led alliance.
