The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP)

Oranisation Overview

The foundation was established in 1995 by the Swiss government, as a contribution to NATO’s Partnership for Peace, but its roots go way back to the Geneva Summit of 1985, where U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev exposed the pressing need to strengthen national expertise in the field of disarmament and international security.

So the Swiss Confederation took the initiative to design a training programme that facilitated exchange between experts and government officials and contributes to NATO’s Partnership for Peace initiative. Over the course of 30 years, the GCSP expanded its portfolio and provides a unique 360° approach to learn about and solve global challenges.

The foundation’s mission is to educate leaders, facilitate dialogue, advise through in-house research, inspire new ideas and connect experts to develop sustainable solutions to build a more peaceful future.

Today, the GCSP is still partly supported by the Swiss government and governed by 55 member states on the Foundation Council.
