The Amgen Scholars Program at the University of Tokyo offers outstanding undergraduates from across Asia the opportunity to engage in advanced research at one of the region’s top universities. Students join a lab within one of the participating graduate schools or institutes: Medicine, Engineering, Science, Agricultural and Life Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Industrial Science, or Advanced Science and Technology.

The University of Tokyo Amgen Scholars Program 2026 offers motivated undergraduate students from around the world the chance to gain hands-on research experience at one of Asia’s top universities.
This eight-week summer program allows participants to work in leading laboratories under expert faculty supervision, explore Japanese culture, and connect with peers through collaborative research experiences. The program aims to inspire the next generation of scientists by providing practical research training and international exposure.

Which Fields are Eligible?
Students will be placed in laboratories within any of the following University of Tokyo graduate schools or institutes:
- Graduate School of Science
- Graduate School of Engineering
- Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences
- Institute of Industrial Science
Fields generally include biological, biomedical, chemical, and life sciences, and related disciplines.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at a university in the Asia region.
- Have completed at least their first year of undergraduate studies by the program start date.
- Not be graduating before the program begins and must return to their home institution afterward.
- Have a strong academic record.
- Possess good English proficiency (minimum TOEFL iBT 72 or equivalent).
- Have a genuine interest in pursuing a Ph.D. or research career in the future.
How Are Applicants Selected?
Selection is based on:
- Academic excellence and research motivation.
- Clarity of personal statement and alignment with the program’s research fields.
