PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Senior Assistant Technician will be responsible for assisting staff and students in undertaking technical and practical work in workshops and /or laboratories.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Assistant Technicianwill be responsibilities to the Technician for the following duties and responsibilities: –
a)Â Â Â To clean and sterilize laboratory glass ware, surfaces and equipment /machines;
b)Â Â To package, transport, submit, process and preserve test samples;
c)Â Â Â To receive and record submitted samples;
d)Â Â To prepare laboratory reagents;
e)Â Â Â To document and receive samples for analysis;
f)Â Â Â Â To dispose laboratory waste in appropriate manner;
g)Â Â Â To stock take & record laboratory/workshop inventories;
h)Â Â To assist in setting up routine experiments;
i)Â Â Â Â To assist in setting up braille, white cane, sign language, audiology equipment and other special needs education equipment.
 Key Result Areas
a)Â Â Â Clean and sterilized laboratory glass ware, surfaces and equipment maintained;
b)Â Â Test samples processed, packaged, transported, submitted and preserved in timely manner;
c)Â Â Â Samples received, recorded and submitted;
d)Â Â Laboratory reagents prepared appropriately;
e)Â Â Â Samples for analysis documented and received;
f)Â Â Â Â Laboratory waste disposed in appropriate manner;
g)Â Â Â Stock taking and laboratory inventories maintained;
h)Â Â Routine experiments set up;
i)Â Â Â Â Software installation and maintenance done;
j)Â Â Â Â Equipment for special needs (braille, white cane, sign language, and audiology) set up.
Must have:
1.     Either A higher Diploma in relevant technical field of specialty specified above plus three years work experience at a level of Assistant Technician in a reputable institution.
2.     or, An ordinary diploma in a technical field plus at least six years work experience at the level of Assistant Technician in a reputable institution.
