To provide comprehensive financial management support across crop production and ranching operations. The Farm Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, monitoring costs, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Record Keeping

• Maintain up-to-date and accurate books of accounts for both crop and livestock operations.
• Record daily transactions including income, expenses, purchases, and payroll.
• Track costs by activity (e.g., land preparation, fertilization, livestock feeding, veterinary care).

2. Budgeting and Cost Control

• Support the preparation of operational budgets for each enterprise (e.g., tomatoes, onions, beef cattle).
• Monitor actual performance against budget and flag variances to management.
• Calculate and monitor cost of production per crop and per animal unit.

3. Reporting and Analysis

• Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports (cash flow, income statements, balance sheets).
• Provide detailed enterprise profitability analysis (e.g., crop margins, livestock returns).
• Support decision-making through data-driven financial insights.

4. Procurement & Payments

• Ensure timely payment of suppliers, service providers, and labor.
• Maintain vendor and contractor records and reconcile statements.
• Oversee petty cash and farm expenditure approvals.

5. Payroll and Statutory Compliance

• Process payroll for farm and ranch employees, including casual workers.
• Ensure compliance with tax and social security requirements (e.g., PAYE, NSSF, WHT).
• Maintain employee financial records and support audit processes.

6. Inventory and Asset Tracking

• Track stock levels of inputs (seeds, chemicals, feeds, fuel).
• Record and depreciate fixed assets such as tractors, livestock, and irrigation systems.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Agribusiness, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in an agricultural or livestock environment.
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong understanding of cost accounting and enterprise tracking.
• High integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a rural setting.

Added Advantage:

• Experience with donor-funded projects or commercial farms.
• Understanding of agricultural cycles and seasonality in budgeting and cash flow planning.
