Oranisation Overview

The doors to the African Science Academy (ASA) opened in August 2016 as Africa’s first specialist STEM-focused academy for girls.

ASA is a girls-only Advanced Level school for young women from across Africa with outstanding maths and science potential. In just one academic year, our students complete globally respected Cambridge International A Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. We also provide our students with robotics and computer science programmes alongside their A-Levels to prepare them for careers in Engineering, Science, Computing and more. Means-tested scholarships and bursaries are provided for all students.

Why STEM?

We believe STEM education can unlock Africa’s potential. Yet, many girls are actively discouraged from pursuing science in high school, assuming they complete their secondary education. We actively seek out gifted African women and provide them with a world-class STEM education, training them in the skills of the future and developing into the female leaders of tomorrow.

Why girls?

Girls face huge challenges to developing their full potential; poverty, gender discrimination and lack of access. We provide full scholarships for gifted young women from low-income background to ensure they are given the education opportunities they deserve. We believe women should be at the forefront of Africa’s transformation and, at ASA, we are ensuring they will be.
