Halcyon

Oranisation Overview

Halcyon was co-founded in 2014 by Dr. Sachiko Kuno and Kate Goodall, who served as CEO until December 2023. The organization takes its name from our original headquarters, Halcyon House in Georgetown, Washington, DC, reflecting our founding mission to provide a haven where bold founders tackling the world’s most pressing problems can find support, optimism, and belief.

In our earliest phase, Halcyon operated as an incubator, while also running arts-based programming such as the By The People festival, which attracted tens of thousands of visitors and generated millions in local economic impact. By 2021, we shifted our focus fully toward supporting impact-driven businesses, and launched several financing vehicles to back Halcyon founders and other aligned ventures. This evolution set the stage for our accelerator model, advancing ventures in Climate, Health, and EquityTech beyond the idea stage with strong potential for scalable growth.

Halcyon’s 10th anniversary marked a new chapter, as former Managing Director Dan Barker stepped into the role of President and CEO. We celebrated our decade of impact through Halcyon Homecoming and The Halcyon Innovation Summit, reuniting our global ecosystem of alumni and community members to build toward the next decade and beyond.
