Oranisation Overview

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is Germany's oldest political foundation, established in 1925 from the legacy of Friedrich Ebert, the first democratically elected German President, to promote social democracy's values of freedom, justice, and solidarity. Initially focused on scholarships for working-class youth, it was banned by Nazis in 1933, re-established in 1947, and expanded internationally after 1961, becoming a global non-profit promoting democratic education, policy advice, and social balance through its work with unions, political parties, and civil society.
