Description

The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) is the University of Luxembourg’s third interdisciplinary research centre, focusing on high-quality research, analysis and public dissemination in the field of contemporary history. It promotes an interdisciplinary approach with a particular focus on new digital methods and tools for historical research and teaching.

To promote international exchanges and collaborations in the field of contemporary, public and digital history, the C²DH offers one short-term fellowship position for 2 months for a scholar at risk, including Palestine and Sudan.

Following criteria established by the Scholars at Risk network, we understand at-risk scholars to be those who are experiencing, or experienced very recently, direct risk, such as threat of violence/ harm to the individual, harassment/ intimidation, threat of arrest/ imprisonment, etc, or they are experiencing general physical risk from an active conflict in their country of origin.

Applicants are expected to pursue their own research, which can relate to any region in the world and is ideally related to contemporary, public or digital history, broadly understood. Fellowship holders will be assigned to one of our Research departments and asked to present their current project in a seminar or colloquium.

  • Contemporary History of Luxembourg
  • Public History
  • Contemporary History of Europe
  • Digital History and Historiography

The fellowship carries a monthly reimbursement of € 1.200 EUR for accommodation and € 1.800 EUR for daily costs. The funding is supposed to cover all expenses including travel and insurance. Fellows are expected to reside in Luxembourg or the Greater Region and we will support you in finding an accommodation in Luxembourg. The C²DH will provide office space and other relevant facilities. The application deadline is 15.10.2025.

Oranisation Overview

The adoption of the Higher Education Act 12 on August 2003 marks the creation of the University of Luxembourg. Four institutions are combined into the new university, which is established in response to calls for an economic reorientation in Luxembourg. The aim of the new institution is to attract intellectual potential back to the country and to offer an education to anyone who cannot study abroad. The objective is to create a research-centred, international and multilingual university.

A first Board of Governors is appointed with Raymond Kirsch as its Chair.
