Oranisation Overview

STEG is a research initiative funded by the UK Government's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office that aims to provide a better understanding of structural change, productivity, and growth in low- and middle-income countries. Our research will help developing country governments, NGOs, and the private sector to design and implement strategies that better facilitate growth. The STEG PhD Research Grant is designed to support high-quality doctoral research that advances understanding of structural transformation in low- and middle-income countries. These grants aim to expand the field of development economics by funding early-career researchers and strengthening global participation, including applicants from low-income countries (LICs).

PhD Research Grants mirror STEG’s Small Research Grants (SRGs) but with a smaller budget cap, applying the same proposal structure, criteria, and funding principles.
