Fellowship Regions and Host Institutions
Three fellowships will be awarded, one per African sub-region:
- East Africa – Hosted in eligible East African countries.
- Southern Africa – Hosted in eligible Southern African countries.
- West Africa – Hosted at AGRHYMET Regional Center, Niamey, Niger.
Who Can Apply?
This opportunity is open to early-career researchers or professionals who meet the following nationality criteria:
East Africa
Applicants must be nationals of one of the following:
Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda
Southern Africa
Applicants must be nationals of:
Angola, Botswana, Comoros, DRC, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe
West Africa
Applicants must be nationals of:
Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal
Additional Requirements:
- Must be hosted by a relevant academic or research institution (East & Southern Africa).
- For West Africa, must be eligible to be hosted by AGRHYMET.
- Strong interest or experience in co-production, stakeholder engagement, or indigenous knowledge systems is an asset.
Fellowship Objectives
The fellowship is designed to:
- Strengthen co-production capacity within regional meteorological and climate service centers.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement to co-design climate service priorities.
- Conduct applied research on co-production methods, communication approaches, and local knowledge systems.
- Promote learning exchanges and collaboration across the WISER programme.
