Key Responsibilities of Council Members
Youth Advisory Council members will:
- Advise Strategically: Offer insights into emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities affecting African youth.
- Review Programmes: Assess and recommend improvements on YCA initiatives from a youth perspective.
- Champion Youth Voice: Represent YCA at key events and advocate for youth inclusion at all levels.
- Enhance Transparency: Provide feedback and recommendations on YCA operations to ensure accountability.
- Drive Innovation: Propose fresh ideas and connect with partners, youth organisations, and private sector players.
- Mobilise Youth: Encourage young people across Africa to engage with YouthConnekt Africa activities and campaigns.
Who Can Be Nominated?
To be eligible for nomination to the Youth Advisory Council:
- You must be aged 23 to 35 years.
- You must be a citizen or permanent resident of any YouthConnekt Africa member country.
- Fluency in English or French is required.
- You should have demonstrated leadership, advocacy, or impact in youth development, civic engagement, entrepreneurship, innovation, climate, or inclusion.
The Council aims for regional, gender, and thematic balance. At least 50% of members will be women, and youth from marginalised communities (e.g. rural youth, youth with disabilities) are encouraged to apply.
Term, Meetings, and Support
- Term Length: 2 years (renewable once for a maximum of 4 years).
- Meetings: Quarterly virtual meetings and one in-person annual meeting (subject to funding).
- Support: YCA will provide administrative and logistical support, along with a dedicated liaison for coordination.
- Members must adhere to a code of conduct, maintain confidentiality, and actively contribute. Poor performance or misconduct may lead to removal.
