Description

International AIDS Society Scholarship Application is Open. This will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and virtually from 26 to 31 August 2026. The AIDS 2026 Scholarship Programme provides financial assistance to selected applicants from around the world to attend AIDS 2026 in person or virtually. The programme is intended for individuals who would otherwise not have the financial means to attend AIDS 2026. It supports applicants who contribute to the conference programme, as well as those who can demonstrate that they will transfer the skills and knowledge acquired at the conference to the work they undertake in their own organizations and communities .

Aim and Benefits of International AIDS Society Scholarship

The IAS will award both in-person and virtual scholarships for AIDS 2026. Please select your preferred attendance type in your application, as well as the types of financial support you require to participate. Note that given the high demand, we may not be able to grant full scholarships to all selected candidates.

Support for in-person attendance includes:

  • In-person plus virtual registration, including:
    • In-person access to all conference sessions, satellite sessions, poster discussion sessions, the exhibition, the Global Village and pre-conferences
    • Online access to all conference sessions, satellite sessions and pre-conferences streamed live on the platform, session recordings and on-demand content, the e-posters and the virtual Global Village
  • Travel support (pre-paid economy class return ticket from the nearest international airport in your country of residence) for the dates of the conference
  • Accommodation (single room in a budget hotel) for the duration of the conference
  • Daily living allowance for each day of the conference

Support for virtual attendance includes:

  • Online access to all conference sessions, satellite sessions and pre-conferences streamed live on the platform, session recordings and on-demand content, the e-posters and the virtual Global Village.
  • Requirements for International AIDS Society Scholarship Qualification

    The AIDS 2026 Scholarship Programme is open to anyone working, volunteering or studying in the area of HIV and who is at least 18 years old on 26 July 2026.

    Priority will be given to:

    • Abstract presenters , workshop facilitators and co -facilitators , and Global Village organizers and co -organizers whose submission has been selected for the conference
    • Applicants from low – and middle -income countries
    • Applicants who are part of key populations and people living with HIV
    • Young people and early – career investigators below the age of 35
    • Applicants who did not previously receive a scholarship for an International AIDS Conference Scholarship recipients must be available to attend for the full duration of the conference (26 to 31 July 2026, inclusive).

    Interview date, Process and Venue for International AIDS Society Scholarship

    Application Process 

    • The application process is entirely free. Application forms must be completed in full and in English to be considered. Supporting documentation must also be in English.
    • Applications will be accepted until 27 January 2026, 23:59 Central European Time (CET).
    • Please submit only one online application form. Multiple submissions from the same person (even using different email addresses) will result in all applications being discarded. Identical or partially identical applications will be considered fraudulent an d will also be discarded
    • Applications generated entirely by an AI tool will be considered invalid.
    • You may save your application as a draft and return to complete it later. However, to be considered, the full application (including the letter of recommendation) must be completed and submitted by 27 January 2026, 23:59 CET.
    • All applicants will be notified by email about the outcome of their application in early April 2026.
    • Successful applicants will have 10 days from the date of the notification email to accept their scholarship offer.
    • Please ensure you accept within this timeframe so that the IAS can proceed with the necessary logistical arrangements for your participation.
    • By submitting an application, applicants agree that an anonymous version of their application will be shared with AIDS 2026 scholarship reviewers

Oranisation Overview

The International AIDS Society (IAS) is the world's largest association of HIV/AIDS professionals, with 11,600 members from over 170 countries as of July 2020, including clinicians, people living with HIV, service providers, policy makers and others. It aims to reduce the global impact of AIDS through collective advocacy. Founded in 1988, IAS headquarters are located in Geneva, and its president since July 2020 is Adeeba Kamarulzaman. The IAS hosts the biennial International AIDS Conference, the IAS Conference on HIV Science, and the HIV Research for Preven.
